SANTA FE—Earlier today, the Senate passed House Bill 52, Rep. Monica Youngblood’s plan to limit the market for stolen vehicles in New Mexico. The bill is co-sponsored by Rep. Patricio Ruiloba (D-Albuquerque) and Sen. Howie Morales (D-Silver City). It now heads to Governor Susana Martinez for action.
Rep. Youngblood released the following statement after the Senate’s vote:
“New Mexicans have been asking us for years to act on legislation that will protect their safety and the safety of their property. Today, the Legislature has finally responded. I am pleased by the broad bipartisan support for this idea to prevent and detect auto theft in our state. I know it will reduce the market for stolen vehicles and help reduce our state’s outrageous car theft rate.”
