SANTA FE—Tonight, the House of Representatives approved House Bill 325, Rep. Rod Montoya’s plan to cushion the economic impact of the pending San Juan Generating Station closure. The bill is co-sponsored by Sen. Steven Neville (R-Aztec), and it passed by a vote of 44-25.
Rep. Montoya released the following statement after tonight’s vote:
“Time is not on our side. We must act now to prevent a looming economic disaster in San Juan County. This bill is the product of countless hours of meetings and discussions. Although it does not cover every aspect related to the closure of the San Juan Generating Station, it will help our local communities recover some of the property tax revenue that would have been lost. With less than two days left in the session, I urge the Senate to pass this bill quickly so we can send it to the governor.”
HB 325 will now be sent to the Senate for consideration.
