Santa Fe – House Republicans voted unanimously to prohibit lobbyist spending during the legislative session on Sunday. House Bill 131 (HB 131) is a measure to require to additional lobbyist reporting during the legislative session. However, during debate on HB 131 House Republicans brought additional transparency to the bill by adding a requirement to prohibit lobbyists from spending any money on legislators during the session.

“We are accountable to our neighbors in our communities and not to professional lobbyists in Santa Fe,” said House Minority Leader Rep. Jim Townsend (R-Artesia). “We are elected to represent our constituents and now we will have more time to devote to what is most important to them.”

Rep. Townsend sponsored the change to HB 131 which passed by a vote of 48-8 with all eight votes against coming from House Democrats.
