Santa Fe – Members of the House Republican Caucus issued the following statements on the passage of Senate Bill 489.

“To politicians in Santa Fe, these workers and families are only numbers,” said House Republican Whip Rod Montoya (R-Farmington). “For me, they are my friends and my neighbors and they are going feel the pain from this awful bill.”

“The Governor and Democrat legislators claim this bill will lower electric rates, but refused to put in rate controls in the law. Their actions speak louder than their words,” he added.

“This bill costs New Mexicans over $800 million in higher electric costs,” said Rep. Paul Bandy (R-Aztec). “New Mexicans should be free to choose which energy source is best for their homes without Santa Fe picking winners and losers.”

“This misguided bill will cost over $40 million in lost payroll and it doesn’t do enough for those who are going to lose their jobs,” said Rep. James Strickler (R-Farmington). “These lost jobs not only hurt those directly affected, but also our schools, our public safety and entire communities.”
