Santa Fe, NM– Representative Gail Armstrong (R-Magdalena) presented House Bill 143 in the Health and Human Services committee. The appropriation measure will deliver $1 million dollars to fund the state’s County and Tribal Health councils. The funding request was discussed during the interim and carries a recommendation for passage from the Legislative Health and Human Services interim committee.

“Rural communities rely on the County and Tribal Health Councils to identify and address local healthcare concerns,” said Representative Gail Armstrong, “In the interim our Health committee heard about the need for funding for these important councils, the legislature did not pass it last year so it is time to make sure we fund this bill.”

The County and Tribal Health Councils were last funded in 2009, with a measure (HB 67) failing to be approved in 2019. HB 143, funding the councils, passed the House Health and Human Services committee on a unanimous vote.
