Reduce Administrative Costs

House Republicans have long argued that too much of the money that goes to fund public education is spent on Administrative Overhead instead of in the classroom.  Think New Mexico reports that only 57.2% of the education budget gets to the classroom.

Proposal

  • Implement Think New Mexico’s plan to establish minimum percentages that New Mexico school districts must commit to classroom spending.
  • Research shows that student outcomes improve when school districts dedicate more funding to teachers, principals, counselors, and other student support personnel. Moving 4% of the state’s educational funding from administrative costs to classroom services could provide up to $100 million for instructional support services for our children.
